How many of you remember Los Angeles between 1988 and 1992? I picked those years because I moved there in 88 and the Rodney King Riots happened in 92. Things changed then. But between those years, do you really remember L.A. and the Hollywood music scene? I spent most of my years in L.A. in a drunken stupor (not to mention the few hours that I spent in an alcohol induced coma, in Cedar Sainai’s E.R.), but there are some things that I remember vividly. Standing on the Sunset Strip passing out flyers with David Love, in the dead of winter, while the rest of Lypshitz was on vacation in Orlando. Meeting the love of my life on the patio of the Coconut Teaszer on Kevin’s birthday. The roaches in the apartment that me, Moxy and K.A. shared at 15025 Saticoy. Dave Brandini video taping himself running around the dressing room at the Whisky, with his pants around his ankles. Hanging out in the rehearsal studio, after hours, doing a BFOS jam. I remember my friends and I remember that I enjoyed being there, but there are a lot of details that fade over time. That’s why I put together my scrapbooks. When I moved to L.A. I started saving flyers, as well as cutting out articles, pictures, band names, club names, ads and lots of goofy shit from the local magazines. How many of them can you name besides Rock City News and BAM? How ‘bout L.A. Rocks, Endless Party, Screamer, L.A. Rock Review and Concrete Jungle? Some of the things I saved, I did so because I knew the band or someone in it; just to keep a personal record of things. The rest, I saved simply because it happened to be a part of L.A. at that time, and I wanted to be able to remember as much of it as I could. So here it is, your guided tour back to a time when girls sat on the wall in front of Gazzarri’s wearing nothing more than a bra or boustier and a black skirt the size of a Band-Aid, all the “Cool Rockers” owned at least one pair of cowboy boots, all of the Musician Wanted ads ended with “No 818’s” and most of you didn’t even believe that there WAS a roommate named Bill........ Enjoy.
